    Notes on sound exceptions and special circumstances or considerations

    1. Sounds such French EN, AU digraph, and aspirated WH that are already disappearing are completely replaced by sounds that are already more common place

      1. French EN for Short O + N

      2. AU Digraph for Short O or Lax Short A 

      3. Aspirated WH, just becomes a single W or H depending on the word’s real pronunciation.

    2. Lax Short A vs Short O or Cot/caught has been simplified by and large opting for the short O except in foreign loan words or words that have a+r, a+l, w+a, etc. pronunciation.

    3. Reductions are represented and standardized especially in those words where it is increasingly more common than the “True”/”Pure”/”Formal” pronunciation. Now as time continues some reductions I don’t include will become increasingly more prevalent but as this is a contemporary standardization, in a future time it will have to be done again also the need for distinction between similar words still exists so in some cases I still opt for a common spelling rather than pure phonemic transcription.

      1. ING becomes ENG mainly in the case of gerunds or cases where the number of syllables or preceding consonants do not allow for the reduction or in esse causes uncomfortability.

      2.  ING becomes ihn in cases where the reduction is more common than the full pronunciation or where the verb is not operative/focus/or stressed in the sentence.

      3. Small prepositions and articles as ‘to’, ‘of’, ‘a’, ‘an’, and ‘the’ will also use their schwa variants.

      4. T+R, D+R, T+u/yu, D+u/yu are all represented with the actual sounds pronounced so they become CHR, JR, CHU/CHOO, JU/JOO

      5. AND and other similar words that based on local accent, speed, stress, or tone that can have upwards of 4 different variations I opt for a single standard word.

      6. Words like TO and OF than can be reduced to just a schwa I have opted for a single standard spelling that includes the schwa and the associated consonant to avoid misunderstandings.

    4. Syllabic r and syllabic l are represented with ə + r and ə + ll but are not especially distinguishable from unstressed Schwa + R or Dark L. Although I determine that it is not necessary as this is purely a pronunciation based distinction rather than one that is explicitly necessary for clarity when reading.

    5. Silent letters and final stops have been completely removed except in the case of final stops for the first half of compound words or at the end of first syllables with complex vowels ex. OUTSTANDING = Ou’stahndeng

    6. X and Q are removed as they are used for very particular sets of sounds that can be represented simply and more clearly in other ways. X for ks, gz, ksh, gzh, z, or silence in the case of FAUX while Q is for k or kw. By extension C has been kept only for distinguishing the CH sound but removed in every other case for the s or z. Although possibly just using C could be possible instead of CH, as it isn’t used for anything else in this proposal and cuts down on the amount of H’s present in the writing. *Under consideration*

    7. Y has been simplified to just be used for representing the consonant sound and none of the vowels.

    8. Double dd has been used to represent the flap or soft t as in most cases unless by a specialized teacher the sound is already explained to learners as a d sound or quick d sound. While in reality this sound is nearer physically to the flap/tap r phoneme using the everyday explanation and connecting it to the placement of the trill/tap r could help students to better make the connection and much more easily produce/understand the sound. Also I suspect that it gets rid of any confusion caused by the T or TT.

    9. Thorn Þþ have been added only to help differentiate between the voiced and unvoiced. TH is already widely recognizable and so I have opted to keep it for unvoiced TH like “with” while the thorn is for words with the voiced/vibrated version found in common words like “That, This, Them, The”

    10. Schwa and its IPA symbol was added to represent all reduced vowel sounds in the language as across American accents ease of articulation has permeated as the primary motivator of pronunciation change and led to reductions not solely in consonant pronunciation or omission but across vowel sounds especially among common or essential prefixes and suffixes (Pre, De-, Re-, be-, com, anti, col-, -tion/cial/sion/cian/, -s, -ed etc.) and has even omitted many central vowel sounds (business, every, camera, catholic, history)
